365 Ubuntu Climbs

Climbed Table Mountian Every Single Day in 2018

Ubuntu is about understanding that we are not responsible for others suffering – but that we can be part of the solution to help them.

365 Ubuntu Climbs was an initiative to show what we can accomplish when we work together by focusing on what we can do, rather than just noticing the challenge at hand.

I wanted to show how quickly everyone’s donations add up to meaningful change. I climbed Table Mountain every day in 2018 not missing one day.

I committed to this knowing full well all the limitations and challenges that it would bring. My greatest lesson has been understanding my challenge, although tough, is nothing compared to living in poverty or feeling forgotten by society.

By focusing on what we can do, we successfully change people's lives. By supporting us with R1 per climb, people became part of a community that impacted others' lives through our chosen organizations below.

During 2018 I had 744 people of all fitness levels push their capabilities in support of others, and in turn, learned what they were capable of.

Homes

Habitat for humanity gives families the gift of a safe home to live in. Imagine never having to come home after a longs day's work and still having to empty your home that’s full of water after the heavy rain. Imagine not knowing what a water crisis is because you’ve never had your own bathroom.

We partnered to build additional shelters for orphaned and vulnerable children being cared for by Baphumelele Children's home in Khayelitscha.

Literacy

One Heart we’ve delivered world-class reading books that enable the teachers at under-resourced schools, like Klapmuts Primary, to help children read. The teachers and children are so enthusiastic, I’ve never seen both stays during break time and after school to keep learning. Through your support, we’ve been part of changing the lives of these young students

We were able to support the delivery of books to 12 of the poorest primary schools.

Save Lives

Through the Sunflower Fund, we’ve added new donors that could save your life if diagnosed with a blood disease like Leukaemia one day. It's not just the person diagnosed, it's parents, spouses, children, friends, and colleagues' lives that are forever changed.

60 new donors were added to the blood registry to help save lives.
